This flight provides a fantastic view of our surrounds where you will see Wilpena Pound from the air with the resort nestled in among the River Red Gums just near the Pound Gap. You will also see the Elder Range, Edeowie Gorge, Lake Torrens, the Heysen Range and St. Mary Peak.

This flight takes you slightly further and completes a circuit of Wilpena Pound where your pilot will point out the Elder Range, Edeowie Gorge, Heysen Range, Lake Torrens, Bunyeroo Gorge, Brachina Gorge, St Mary Peak and the Pound Gap. You will clearly see how the Flinders Ranges appear to be a backbone on the landscape. An extraordinary sight and great for photographers.

This flight takes you beyond Wilpena Pound over the Western Plains, Parachilna township, Parachilna Gorge, Blinman township and Copper Mine, the Bunkers Range and Skytrek 4WD track. You will see clearly the backbone shaped Flinders Ranges and the varying colours and textures of this ancient and beautiful landscape.

Enjoy excellent views of Outback South Australia starting with a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound and Brachina Gorge. Then pass over Parachilna, home to the famous Prairie Hotel, the township of Marree and on to awe-inspiring Lake Eyre. We will land at either Marree or Leigh Creek to stretch our legs. The return flight passes over the Leigh Creek open-cut coal fields and the Gammon Ranges before returning to Wilpena.

A scenic flight over Wilpena Pound, the Flinders Ranges and on to Lake Eyre, via William Creek, and over Maree, and Muloorina Station. Extend your viewing time and see where the water enters from the top of the Lake. If the rivers are flowing with water, it is common to see an abundance of birdlife at the Warburton Groove. Fly over Wilpena Pound and Brachina Gorge. We will then pass over Parachilna, home to the famous Prairie Hotel, the Leigh Creek open-cut coal fields, the township of Marree, Muloorina Station and then the awe inspiring Lake Eyre. We lunch at the unique pub in Williem Creek (population 10 at last count). After lunch we land at the Anna Creek Painted Hills, for a 45min guided walk through this unique landscape.The flight back to Wilpena takes us over Olympic Dam, the opal mining town of Andamooka and Lake Torrens.

Air Wilpena contracts Wrights Air to operate scenic flights from their base at Wilpena Pound Resort, in the Flinders Ranges.
It operates under the LA & AM Matthews AOC providing scenic and charter flights by highly experienced commercial pilots with extensive outback experience.
The Wilpena Pound airstrip is a private air strip and all traffic requires landing premission before access. You must contact Wrightsair on 08 8670 7962 in advance for weather information, fuel availability or flight planning.
Approaching the airstrip without notifying us is extremely dangerous as our aircraft are undertaking scenic flights at all hours of the day. CASA will be notified of all unauthorised approaches.
Drones
Flying a drone in and around Wilpena Pound Resort is DANGEROUS. It has the potential to interfere with our scenic flights, which could cause a serious accident resulting in loss of life. It is an offence to fly a drone in the approach or departure path of a runway of an aerodrome. Fines of up to $5,250 apply.
Rescheduled and Cancelled Flights
Every effort will be made to fulfil your booked scenic flight, however due to air traffic control constraints, weather conditions, operational reasons, and other circumstances beyond our control, flights may need to be rescheduled or cancelled. A full refund will be issued if your flight is cancelled.
